Budget Getaways Review
A rural Overberg setting in the Buffelsjag valley 11 kays from Swellendam, with a backdrop of rolling hills giving rise to the Langeberg mountains, A Log Home at Buffalo Creek offers a well-rounded weekend package.
Built of raw timber, the cabin combines rustic country appeal with a hefty dose of refinement, comfort and pretty surrounds.
Taking a walk through, on ground level we have an open-plan living area leading onto a timber deck, with sprawling lawn and garden beyond.
The kitchen is well-equipped and there's DSTV on tap in the living room. Given the fire risk, there's no indoor fireplace.
Sleeping-wise, the cabin houses eight comfortably, with two double ensuites on ground floor and a pair of twin rooms up on mezzanine level.
The bathrooms come with showers and free-standing baths.
The immediate surrounds are ideal for kids and their hounds (by request), with wide expanses of lawn, a farm dam to dunk off in, a splash pool (in summer) if you're not keen on a dam dunk, and a playground of farm roads, hiking trails and potential kloofing options for the wilder at heart.
Further afield, Swellendam (restaurants, historic buildings, a golf course and the Marloth Nature Reserve) is a mere 10km away, there's fishing, boating and a foefie slide at nearby Umshanti Watersports (500m away), and game viewing at the Bontebok National Park… Alternatively, go the easy route and kick back on the deck with a beer and book.
Whatever floats your boat, A Log Home at Buffalo Creek htis the spot for a group of friends or extended family out for an easy-going getaway or overnighter en route to Plett and beyond.
"Loved staying at this log house!! A home away from home. So well stocked with everything that one needs. In a perfect world this little spot would have a fireplace and it would be completely sublime. Our kids (and furry child) loved the stay and didn't want to leave, and neither did we. Would definitely recommend this spot to anyone. Just an FYI there are bats but they're not a bother."

"A Log Home is such a lovely place to stay. The scenery is absolutely incredible. We had such a lovely time enjoying our surroundings and nature. The fact that the house can take 8 people made it easier for me to spend time with my closest friends. I was so impressed with their administration. They were very prompt and thorough with their replies on emails and super friendly and helpful. I would recommend this house to anyone that needs some time away from work just to relax. We were there for two nights, but it feels like a week."

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Had a little issue with the water tank, but we took it as "all part of the farm life experience". A great place for family and friends. "We visited with a group of friends and had a lovely stay here. The setting is amazing with wonderful mountain views. We enjoyed a meal in town on the Friday evening (I can really recommend Field and Fork) and on the Saturday we made our own braai. The unit is very well equipped and clean."
