Budget Getaways Review

Situated on a quiet street away from the R62 cutting through Calitzdorp, Atara Cottage is a tidy little Karoo number in a shady garden.

Good for a small family or couples who would like to be in the dorp itself, Atara is close to the local action: brekkie and coffee shops, historic buildings, a gallery or two, the Port offerings of Bo Plaas and De Krans winery. It's also a good base to return to after a day on the Swartberg Pass, Prince Albert, Oudtshoorn, or Rooiberg Pass.

Looking through Atara, you’ve got a simple and well-furnished interior and two bedrooms - a double and twin.

The kitchen is fully equipped; the dining room seats six; the living room is kitted with air-con (essential in summer).

The outdoor braai area is shaded by trees and vine-covered pergola.

The front porch is your typical covered stoep of old - a spot to while away with a cup of moerkoffie while local life trundles slowly by. Alongside is your shaded double carport.

A simple Karoo stay in town that's also pet-friendly, Atara serves as a useful R62 stop-off for couples and small families alike.

Guest Reviews

"The house is warm, friendly, and tidy, with facilities as if I was in my own home. And the best was that the place was pet-friendly. I rate all as "fantastic!" and the scenery is so beautiful."
