Budget Getaways Review
From Boesmansdrift's guestbook... "Thank you for a wonderful weekend. It was such a treat to relax in this beautiful place. Your little touches made us feel welcome – we wanted to stay for the whole week!" "A true hidden treasure! Even though it was mid-winter, this home warmed us all. Would love to see all four seasons as I am sure each one will be just as beautiful as this house." "House was stunning! Thanks for such a lovely relaxing stay – the perfect getaway!" There you have it, straight from the discerning Budget traveller's mouth.
Appointed within spitting distance of Bonnievale itself (1km) and straddling the Breede River, this fruit and grape farm clearly has plenty going for it. While Bonnievale offers heaps of accommodation, much of it on the river, not many of the options can house a largish group in comfort and style - this is where Boesmansdrift rises to the occasion, especially when it comes to families with young kids.
While not in the old creaky smell-of-straw traditional farmhouse mould, the house ticks many boxes. For starters, it sleeps eight in comfort, with a total of two double beds and four singles - think two nuclear families. The river is a sensible 1.4km stroll through the orchards - meaning you won't have to spend the entire weekend fretting about your little critters and can actually enjoy yourself for a change. There are two bathrooms, one with shower, the other with shower and bath. The living room features a fireplace, telly (DSTV point available, but bring own decoder and card) and timber floors (as does the rest of the house, which lends it a cosy ambience in winter. The kitchen is fully equipped. Outside you will find a built-in braai on the patio. There is WiFi throughout the house.
Like most getaways along this stretch, the river is a focal point, though in this case the banks are apparently quite rugged and rocky, but you can swim or cast a line and do some fishing. Stretching out on the lawn to the sound of sizzling chops may therefore fill a large portion of your idle time. Your to-pack list therefore includes, fishing rod, Factor 50 sunscreen, mountain bike, chilled chardonnay, trashy novel...
By the sounds of it, a great family getaway.

"What a wonderful gem of a getaway! A huge farmhouse filled with all the modern creature comforts that makes a break worthwhile. Christine's personal touch is all over the place and you feel like you are in a well-loved space. The house is very toddler friendly and we had hours of fun watching the 2 and 3-year olds exhaust themselves running on the grass and playing on the swing. Picking fruit was a highlight! With older kiddies you can take the walk down to the river for a picnic. A true winner and a favourite for years to come."

"The place is better in reality than on the photos. We were so pleasantly surprised. What a lovely holiday."

"What an amazing property! This charming country-style interior house with brand new bathroom was perfect for a breakaway with the kids all under the age of 4. The beautiful garden is safe and secure which meant the children were able to roam free while the adults could enjoy some peace and tranquility under the 'thoughtfully" installed mist sprayers on the stoep. It is perfectly located close to town and in the vicinity of a variety of wine farms. The house is however situated next to a busy road that can be a bit noisy. We HIGHLY recommend this property. Thank you Christine, we will definitely be back soon."

"We loved our time at Boesmansdrift Farmhouse. The house itself is beautifully decorated with lots of thoughtful and appealing decor touches, such as ample hanging hooks for wet towels, to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. We also appreciated all the added bits - a bottle of wine, homemade rusks, fresh fruit and little presents for the children. The garden is very pretty, safe and enclosed and we enjoyed sitting outside in the evening whilst we braaied and the children played. A very relaxing stay - highly recommended."

"What an absolutely brilliant winter getaway. The attention to little details is what really won home. We didn't need to bring anything, except of course we did expecting less. From the complimentary bottle of wine to the pic-nic basket ready to be used to the heaters already being on when we got there. Christine really made it so easy to love her place. Our only initial concern was that it's right on the main road, but you realize the town is so quiet that even this isn't an issue. We will definitely go again."

"Spent a fabulous long weekend at this treasure. Beautifully decorated with all the necessities plus many extras, e.g. delicious rusks and a bottle of wine. The pretty garden invites an array of birds, butterflies and "four legged creatures" so take along your binoculars. The road noise was bothersome on the Friday evening but it improved after sunset. Christine was ever so helpful with advice when my aged dad took ill one evening. We enjoyed our walks and cycling around the farm and managed to collect some fruit which we made into marmalade. Thank you once again for a lovely weekend and would I recommend a stay here, absolutely!"

"We stayed in Boesmansdrift Farmhouse over the Easter break this year. The farmhouse is just beautiful, with great attention to details and a real attention to the decor, garden setting and all the little must haves! We loved the garden and outdoor stoep with the braai area, although we felt we were a little too close to the road at times. Generally it was very peaceful and enjoyed our walks through the orchards and down to the river. Although we had a very small incident of petty theft one evening, Christine assisted us so wonderfully in retrieving our belongings, later found in the farm orchards! Big thumbs up to her for being so helpful. We really enjoyed Bonnievale, the farmhouse was really conveniently located to all the nearby vineyards and wine farms, I can personally recommend Asona , Excelsior and Van Loveren. Thanks for a lovely stay and getaway."

"Me, my family and friends from France and Italy only have praise for the beautiful country farm guesthouse of Boesmansdrift. The farm animals were a treat, the kids adored them. We strolled through every inch of the farm and it was immaculate, the orchards and vineyards are a sight to be seen. The smells and sounds you accustom to farm life were in abundance. The neighbours are a friendly retired farmer couple, pleasantly close to the house. We needed some eggs, for a nice farm breakfast. Well, clearly we enjoyed our stay."
