Budget Getaways Review

Keen on tackling the Boesmanskloof hiking trail between McGregor and Greyton and need a no-nonsense spot to bunk down for the night? Read on...

Boesmanskloof - Die Galg sits near the trail head on the McGregor side (start or finish here depending on the direction you’re hiking), and offers all you’ll need for a good night’s kip, pre- or post-hike.

Looking at the guest feedback, hikers, nature lovers and those looking for shorter day walks have had a great time here. “Long walks and starry nights,” says one. “We absolutely loved it and are planning to come back soon,” says another.

Sitting at the base of the Riviersonderend Mountains, 16 kays outside McGregor and 14 kays from the start of the trail, your accommodation at Die Galg comes in two forms...

First off, there are three thatch cottages located on the hillside, with lovely views over the farm. Basic, but well equipped, two of these are open-plan (two singles and a double bed on ground level and another two single beds in the loft). The third cottage is larger, with four single beds downstairs and eight beds in the loft area. All have shared bathrooms, equipped kitchens and fireplaces.

The Stone Barn is well suited to bigger groups. Split into four units, each is open-plan and sleeps eight merry hikers on single beds. The units have a kitchenette, fireplace and separate toilets. All share a large front stoep and braai facilities.

All linen and towels are provided.

There’s a communal swimming pool and jungle gym, as well as some shorter hiking trails into the surrounding hills, as well as 4x4 trail on the farm.

Great surrounds, helpful hosts, laid-back vibe, good value, Boesmanskloof - Die Galg Accommodation is the way to go for this particular hiking adventure.

Guest Reviews

"There are great walks, the facilities are well maintained and everything you need for a getaway is supplied. Serenity-perfection. I am already scheduling my next visit. For nature lovers this is a must."

"We had a wonderful time. The view and the environment was perfect. The kids were well accommodated and all information provided was relevant. The hospitality of the owner was excellent even though I missed a chance to meet her in person. I would definitely recommend or go back myself."

"We absolutely loved it and are planning to come soon again with friends. Everything we needed was there."

"Absolutely lovely peaceful place to go for the weekend. Long walks and starry nights. Cozy accommodation that had everything we needed. Lovely hostess, very friendly and helpful. Our two sons age 8 and 9 enjoyed it too."
