Budget Getaways Review

Dotted along the banks of the Jan Dissels River 9km from Clanwilliam, Boskloof Swemgat’s eight cottages offer everything you’re looking for in a Cederberg getaway - cooling water, big sky atsmosphere, and more than enough to do.

A weekend here is centred around the river, which forms a series of swimming pools flanked by sandy beaches. Given the harsh summers in this neck of the woods, you're unlikely to move far from the water - or your cottage for that matter.

Taking a scout around, you’re well catered for no matter which option you go for. Swielhuis, Langhuis, KliphuisOwen and Nenna’s Cottage all sleep four. Owen and Nenna's come with two separate bedrooms, while the former feature a double room and two extra beds in the living room.

For direct proximity to the river, Kliphuis and Langhuis are the ones to go for.

If you’re after something a little more spacious, GustavHangnes and Fivazhuis are good options. Gustav has four bedrooms (sleeps 8), while Fivashuis and Hangnes have two bedrooms and a double sleeper couch in the lounge.

All the cottages are fully equipped, with indoor fireplaces and braai areas.

Apart from lazying about the river, miles of open farm roads will keep mountain bikers smiling. Hiking trails in the local mountains and treks up to Die Toring - a nearby peak with stunning vistas - are also on the activity menu.

Simple and comfortable accommodation, flowing water, activity if you need it, oodles of raw beauty every which way you turn, Boskloof Swemgat is bound to be a blast.
