The setting at Cazablues Guest Farm couldn’t be more idyllic. Rambling gardens overlooking the moody Goukou River, overflowing with lavender, lemon, avocado, pomegranate, almond and papaya trees, free range chickens and guinea fowl, a choice of two lovely cottages, easy access (9km) to Stilbaai and its long beach...
Delving straight into the accommodation, this comes in the form of River Cottage, a contemporary six-sleeper, and Stone Cottage, a more compact option suitable for four weekenders.
River Cottage offers one queen and one double ensuite bedrooms - one of these tucked into the loft, the other on groundfloor. In addition, there are two single beds on mezzanine level above the living area.
The kitchen is well equipped for a veritable feast, while the open-plan living room, equipped with gas heater, leads onto a covered deck, with languid river stretching out beyond.
TV, DVD player and optional DSTV are available. Towels and linen are standard.
Mozing over to Stone Cottage, this has a cozy voorstoep with braai area - again a perfect spot to kick back and suck in those river views.
Smaller and more earthy than it's sibling, Stone has two bedrooms (double and twin), and a shared bathroom with separate loo.
The lounge and equipped kitchen are open-plan, with DVD player and optional DSTV. There is also a gas heater for the winter chill.
While the river is the obvious focus at Cazablues - bring own bath toys - there is plenty to do on and off the property: gentle farm walks, fishing, mountain biking, good birding, a small farm stall and nursery, Stilbaai's restaurants and beach.
We're still waiting for guest comeback on this one, but with well-appointed accommodation, lush river setting, and passionate owners, we're expecting nothing but a fat thumbs-up.
