Budget Getaways Review
Over the hills, but not too far from the Cape Town crowds, here's a place with a whole bunch of character. As the name suggests, deSkaap is a working sheep (and tomato) farm located just outside Napier's charming little hub.
As for accommodation on this farm, there's plenty to go around...
On the one side you have a pair of semi-detached cottages, each with private entrance and ensuite bathroom with a shower. About 10m on is an appealing two-bedroomed abode with shared bathroom. Further down the drag you will find a six-sleeper house with two bathrooms (one ensuite). Moving along (roughly 150m away) are two more cottages, each with enough space for two weary souls. If that's not enough, there's another spacious four-bedroom house.
Most of the units are kitted out with double beds that can be can be swapped out for singles, and all the other odds and ends you'll need to get through the weekend. Rustic simplicity is the guiding theme.
Bed sorted, you can enjoy the many activites on offer both at deSkaap and in the village itself. Swimming in the dam, picking tomatoes, feeding the sheep, a boma with shelterd braai area (suited to groups of up to 30), built-in bar and pretty views, a number of restaurants and curiosities just four kays up the drag.
Thinking of saying "I do" under Overberg skies? In that case, deSkaap's function venue can pack in 100 of your nearest and dearest for the big day.
A wholesome farm escape with simple accommodation, open spaces and a smattering of activities that you and your city-slicker kids will love.
"We had a lovely family stay at Jan Frederick house. We absolutely loved the house and farm! The staff are friendly and helpful. The farm is amazing with endless walks available in the peaceful surroundings and great fresh tomatoes. The best for me was the awesome Boma and endless supply of wood. We had a really great stay. We will definitely be back!"
