A laid-back country retreat at the foot of the Versamel Mountains, Forellenhof offers a picturesque farm setting and oodles of space to stretch your legs.
You have a choice of three elegant cottages - all private and all with views over rolling grassland to the farm dams below.
Largest in the mix is the cutely-named Freckled Frog Cottage, a three-bedroom unit sleeping six.
Next up is Pretty Pig Cottage, with two bedrooms and housing four, while Laughing Duck Cottage is a compact one-bedroom stone unit (with double and three-quarter bed), nicely suited to couples or a family with a child.
All three cottages are fully equipped, have kitchens, fireplaces, braai areas and those gorgeous views from the veranda.
Staying on the farm, there's impressive birding to be had around the dams, plenty of space for the kids to roam free, and a good chunk of restorative tranquility.
Forellenhof's location makes getting in and out of town a doddle; it's a short drive/cycle into the village and access to the surrounding area is as easy.
With comfortable and well equipped accommodation, great outlook from your cosy cottage, the opportunity to pop in and out of Wakkerstroom, this is a handy getaway combining some urban with rural.
