Budget Getaways Review

Six hundred hectares of rolling grassland, shimmering dams, 10km from Dullstroom along a gravel road, Go Country sounds like the kind of place where trout rods, hiking boots, Barbour jackets and a cooler box of ale go happily hand in hand.

Delving into the guestbook, the happy commentary bodes well: “Beautiful setting and great service.” “A hidden gem in Mpumalanga.” “You would struggle to find a better accommodation in a better setting.”

Accommodation comes in the form of six self-catering units of varying size and privacy, but all with fireplaces, towels and linen, heaters, equipped kitchens and braai areas.

First up is The Barn. Sleeping eight, it's the biggest of the gang. Privately positioned and overlooking the dam, it has four ensuite bedrooms (King, Queen, and two twins in a annex with separate entrance. The living area is open-plan, with a large kitchen attached.

The Homestead is a four-sleeper cottage close to the stables and suited to a small family. Among the features… Double and twin ensuite bedrooms, a compact and cozy living room, separate dining area and kitchen, an outside covered patio with braai.

Shona’s Place is a spacious four-sleeper hidden off a 4x4 track. With two ensuite bedrooms and a large living area opening to a covered patio and braai, this remote cottage is for those really want time out from the Big Smoke.

Birchwood and Silverwood take the form of two identical fishing cottages sitting alongside each other. Ideal for two couples, each has a double ensuite bedroom, living area with fireplace and a small kitchenette.

Last up is Oaktree Cottage, which lies close to reception. This two-sleeper comes with Queen bed, ensuite bathroom, and a kitchenette and living room opening to a deck with all-essential braai.

The activity focus at Go County is all outdoors: trout fishing on well-stocked dams and rivers; casual country strolls through plantations and rolling countryside; mountain biking on the farm and beyond; guided outrides on horse back (enquire about rates); clay pigeon shooting.

And then, of course, there's Dullstroom itself, where you'll probably bump into half your Joburg mates.

Easy country living at a decent price.

Guest Reviews

"Twenty guys on a golf tour can be a bit of a handful, but Paul and Tiffany handled us brilliantly. Fantastic setting, awesome food and great accommodation! You would struggle to find a better accommodation in a better setting. We will be back."

"Tiffany and Paul are the best. It feels like visiting family. Going back in July this year again."
