Budget Getaways Review
Peace, serenity and spectacular views. Fly-fishing and mountain biking by day. Cosying up in front of the fire by night. Welcome to Kinmel Guest Farm.
Spread across the foot of Naudes Nek pass, Kinmel is less than 2km from the village centre, and as such offers the best of rural and urban-ish worlds.
With wide open spaces and farm vibe, this makes for a great getaway for families with children.
All three self-catering units are fully equipped and boast lovely braai areas and indoor fireplaces to keep you snug as a bug under those snow-capped Berg peaks.
Bergstroom Chalet is a comfy number, with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, but sleeping a whopping 11 guests. You can literally bring the extended family along, though we would probably trim this down.
Wilgerboom Chalet is Bergstroom's little sister, coming in with three bedrooms (twin, single and bunk beds) that hold a total of eight visitors.
The Uitsig Studio Apartment can accommodate four across a King room and bunk beds in the open-plan living area.
All of the above are fully equipped with life's basic creature comforts - towels and linen included.
Besides Kinmel's easy proximity to the dorp, it offers a generous variety of activities on site: swimming, biking, fishing, hiking, birdwatching, farm animals.
A good time at a great price – that's a winning combo in our books.
"This is a nice and clean place to stay as the halfway stopover."

"Our stay at Kinmel guest farm was absolutely first class. Directions to the farm were precise, the hosts were warm and welcoming and the 'house' that was made available to us was very well equipped, everything we needed was there. Photos of the farm and area in different seasons against the walls added pleasure to our stay, as did the great stoep, the beautiful view, the warm bedding (can get cold up there in Rhodes) and the cherry on top were the 16 adorable Labrador puppies we were allowed to play with. All in all a great experience and fully recommended to anyone making the trip to this outpost."
