Budget Getaways Review

Here’s a getaway that’ll have your taste buds doing the tango. If you’ve ever been within nose-shot of Napier, you’ll no doubt have been drawn to Pascal’s Country Kitchen and its heavenly smorgasbord of finest lamb shank, spanish ox-tail, baked cheesecake, and more…

Not only is Pascal's an Overberg culinary gem dripping in Tripadvisor accolades, it now offers two very nicely-appointed accommodation options: Blue Sky Chalet and The van Gogh B&B suite.

Looking at the general lay of the land, both options are located in the centre of the village within rolling distance (about 80m) of the restaurant - allowing you to tempt the missus into another Pascal's Passioné (a legendary cocktail), before stumbling back to the boudoir for what-have-you.

First up for review is Blue Sky Chalet. This creative affair features happy blue and white tones, a full length patio, and a spectacular valley view. With a comfy open-plan room and queen size bed, Blue Sky is best suited to either a couple on their own or one with young child in tow (sleeper couch available).

The chalet is decked for self-catering, with an equipped kitchen and braai facilities. Add to this mix DSTV, quality towels and linen, and off-street parking for the Cressida.

Sitting privately alongside is The van Gogh - a delightful B&B unit with its own entrance and a gorgeous picture window overlooking the valley. In this case we're looking at an open-plan ensuite room with four-poster bed. Double doors open to your private patio and garden, and more of those valley and mountain views. An equipped kitchenette with fridge and microwave are part of the deal.

Both units offer the option of breakfast at the restaurant. Way to go!

To fill those empty existential gaps between gorging on Overberg lamb, Passionés and devilish cheesecake, Napier has a decent platter of low-key attractions - book shops, art galleries, trading posts and snuffelwinkels - while a short drive away you’ve got the southernmost point of Africa, Struisbaai and picturesque Arniston.

“Great service... Great food... Great accommodation,” says one guest. Pretty much sums it up.
