Budget Getaways Review
A mere 6km from Tulbagh, Reflections is aptly named after the mirror-like Winterhoek reflections rising off the farm dam.
Apart from general reflection on life's important issues (like, "What shall we have for lunch?") your focus at this 70ha farm will be on taking it seriously easy and catching up on some well-deserved rest.
Not that there isn't a long list of to-dos on the farm and surrounds: bass fishing, swimming and rowing on the dam; walking trails to explore at leisure; lovely architecture and decent restaurants at nearby Tulbagh; a generous scattering of wine estates…
Moving onto your accommodation, you have a pick of two fully equipped houses and three smaller cottages - all pre-packed with views over the shimmering farm dam as well as fireplaces and air-conditioning for Tulbagh varied seasons.
Obiqua (sleeps eight) is the larger of the two houses, with four bedrooms (a mix of doubles and king) and closest to the swimming pool, while Cederberg (sleeps seven) has three bedrooms, including a twin and some extra sleeper couches in the living room.
Both houses have DSTV, an outside braai area and a free crate of firewood to kickstart your evening around the fire.
Saronsburg, Winterhoek and Witzenberg Cottages are perfect for couples, with each featuring a single bedroom with ensuite bathroom. Witzenberg offers a sleeper couch in the living room, should you have the misfortune of children tagging along for the weekend.
As with the larger units, the cottages sport DSTV, fully equipped kitchens, cozy living rooms and indoor fireplaces.
Skirting the edge of the dam and open to all is a boma area known as Gat Inni Dak - that's perfect for groups and individuals out for a bonding evening around the braai grid.
Also worth noting is the Reflections Chapel, a quaint little church located on the farm itself, and a fine venue for those wishing to tie the knot after a six-pack of Tassenberg at the boma. Who need Vegas, we ask?
With awesome views of the surrounding peaks, well-positioned accommodation on a pretty dam that Narcissus would approve of, and a nearby village with decent attractions, Reflections Guest Farm offers something for everyone: couples, families, groups and wedding parties.
"A setting true to its name! What a beautiful spot. The cottage had everything we required inside with a lovely braai on the stoep. We had a great stay recharging. The boat ride was an extra special treat."

"Our group of eight spent three nights in this very comfortable farmhouse overlooking a large dam. There were boats and fishing on the dam, and a small splash pool at the side of the house. We had three days of tranquility and R&R and have all said we'd go back again. Many thanks to Carmen and to Jennifer who went out of their way to ensure we had a good stay."

"Will come again when weather is better and warmer."
(visited July 2014)
"Front door of the cottage leaked with the wind and rain, and no doormat so water and dirt got tracked all over the cottage. But beautiful setting, and stunning views once the weather cleared. Also enjoyed the fireplace and the wood provided."
(visited June 2014)
"We stayed at this lovely establishment last year and what a wonderful weekend it was. The hospitality is warming and the views are breathtaking. I would recommend Reflections to anyone that is looking for a tranquil weekend away."
