Budget Getaways Review

Be it a last-minute country wedding invite or an aversion to the hefty chalet rates at De Hoop Nature Reserve, Staandakkie Guest Cottage clears all the hoops when it comes to a simple and compact base for your Overberg stay.

A quick peruse through Staandakkie's guest book reveals a steady stream of content customers: “We thoroughly enjoyed our two-night stay at this cosy cottage.” “What a nice little place.” “Very friendly people! Very cute cottage.” And so on...

Aptly named after the high pitch of its roof, Staandakkie sits easy in the garden of the farm's main homestead (about 15m away).

This two-sleeper number has everything you need in the way of cosy comfort and fresh decor. With own entrance and garden, the close proximity to friendly hostess Vicki’s home doesn't pose a problem either.

The cottage comprises a bedroom with double bed and ensuite bathroom, with towels and linen provided. The small open-plan kitchen is decked with a healthy supply of tea, coffee and rusks, while the sitting area has a TV and heater. There's no indoor fireplace. You're covered by solar power if Eskom's load-shedding is on the go.

Outside, you’ll find your own braai area (wood provided), a neat lawn and garden, and fresh farm air on tap, with the occasional mooooo! breaking the silence.

Time allowing, there’s a good spread of things to do on and around the farm, including a few strenuous mountain bike rides, a visit to the historic Milkwood tree at Rhenosterfontein (3km away) and a day trip to De Hoop Nature Reserve (35 kays down the road).

Adequate comfort, personal touches, friendly farm hospitality, what more can one ask from a Budget Getaway?

Guest Reviews

"Delightful little self-catering cottage (bedsitter and bathroom) on a real working farm. Vicki and the dogs welcomed us with open arms and the personal touches, with an added bonus of rusks and a bottle of wine, ensured that our stay was extremely comfortable Despite the high winds and some rain, we thoroughly enjoyed the cottage and seeing what we could of the surrounding areas. We will definitely return to spend more time at De Hoop Nature Reserve (spectacular!) and explore De Mond. Highly recommended."
