The Barn at The Suntouched Inn

Napier

A converted barn (and neighbouring guesthouse) situated in the village itself

Budget Getaways Review

To kick off our description of The Barn at The Suntouched Inn - a new spot on Napier's self-catering map - two comments from our undercover Budget spies...

"We were made to feel very much at home by our hosts. They even allowed us to have our 'breakfast' at midday, after returning from the half marathon in Bredasdorp! The beds were super comfortable and I loved sleeping on the mezzanine floor - very cosy! "Very friendly and accommodating hosts, beautiful setting, great fun!" That from Sarah, the Barn's first ever guest.

So far so good, therefore onto the blurb we go. The Barn sits adjacent, yet completely separate from, The Suntouched Inn Guesthouse & Restaurant, a laidback inn catering to weary travellers on their way to Africa's southern tip and other exotic places.

A simple barn that's been converted into a self-catering cottage, it features an airy open-plan layout, with a separate bedroom with double bed and a mezzanine level, also with double bed. There are a further two single daybeds in the living area.

As there's only one bathroom (with bath and shower), we'd say The Barn is best suited to max two couples or a young family (with or without their faithful hound). The living area comes with a fireplace and an eclectic mix of decor, while the kitchenette is adjoined and fully equipped.

Outside there's a kiddies jungle gym for dad - that's been reincarnated from an old fishing boat - a garden area, and views stretching across Napier.

Given the convenient fact that the guesthouse is a mere stroll away, there's the big plus of enjoying the full platter of guesthouse facilities: free wireless internet, a pool table, a dunk in the splashpool, breakfast and other meals in the restaurant, lively conversation with fascinating people from all over the world...

We haven't been there, but tried and tested gut instinct tells us the Barn is a quirky, friendly and chilled spot suited to young families and sociable weekenders keen to be based in the village itself.

Guest Comments

"This spot has everything I look for in a place to unwind. The convenience of a self catering, and the advantage of being close enough to The Sun Touched's delicious restaurant that I could order off the menu - which clearly I did. The beds (all 3 of them, sleeping 6) were super comfy (and yes, I did try them all - what can I say, I enjoy sleeping comfortably and it's a big factor in choosing where I stay). My kids (both under five) enjoyed playing on the pirate ship jungle gym and slide, and us adults enjoyed our chilled wine on the patio and we dangled our toes in the swimming pool. Will definitely be back. This is a self-catering that gives the best of both worlds and lets you choose what it is you want and desire. Fantastic hosts too - thank you and big thumbs up!"
