An 83ha lifestyle farm with a privately-appointed spacious cottage

Budget Getaways Review

About 14km from Stanford and shaded by towering 80-year-old blue gum trees The Farmyard Cottage may be selling itself a little short as it appears to be more farmhouse than farm 'cottage' - if the pics are anything to go by what we have here is a private and substantial abode with plenty in the way of attention to characterful detail both outside and in.

Flower pots in wrought iron frames add a soft touch to the outside walls, pans and pots and carriage lights and other bits and pieces adorn the interior walls. Beautiful mountain and views of the Papiesvlei valley stretch out in most directions. A stoep and nicely appointed braai lapa under the bluegums area forms the social hub during your stay.

The Farmyard Cottage features three comfortable bedrooms, all with double beds - full linen and towels are part of the deal.

In winter you're likely to find yourself huddled around the new fireplace or around the Dover stove in the kitchen, which appears cosy and very well equipped.

The farm itself spans 83ha and as such offers good walking, informal mountain biking and birdwatching. And then there's Stanford and its surrounds, offering plenty in the way of decent restaurants, a real macoy brewery, trekking in the Salmonsdam Nature Reserve, a wedding venue (Beloftebos) 5km up the way, etc, etc.

"We were very happy with the Farmyard Cottage for our weekend away. I gave it two stars for 'appeal of setting' because I was expecting to be closer to nature and be able to do bird watching from the stoep, but Andre is busy with a project to remove all the invasive plant species and there are many indigenous shrubs and trees planted around the house, so it will soon be the nature experience I expected. We enjoyed the large stoep, the herb garden, the walks in between fynbos and the honey! As the previous review says, Andre is very helpful but still allows one privacy. Thank you." "A lovely quiet farm setting yet close enough to go to Stanford and wineries or to attend weddings at Beloftebos. In this lovely cottage everything from the decor in the house to the garden made us feel at home. The veranda had a lovely table where we could sit till late night, barbeque and eat outside. We enjoyed the long walks on the farm. An extra bathroom and toilet, if you are a group (we were 2 couples and an extra person) was the only reason I did not give 5 stars in al the categories of this evaluation. Andre the owner was very friendly and helpful without invading our privacy." (Hanchen Booysen, visited March 2012)
