Budget Getaways Review
Comprising a collection of shops and six self-catering cottages in the heart of Haenertsburg, The Pennefather is somewhat of a village in its own right.
Built in a style that mimics an old-fashioned miner's home, each of the cottages is named after a local mover and shaker. The cottages are all two-sleepers and come with either double or twin beds, spacious and clean ensuite bathrooms, fully equipped kitchens, small dining areas and snug sitting rooms with fireplace and DSTV.
If you're in the mood for a tasty lamb chop or chicken kebab, braai facilities can be arranged, as can a scrumptious breakfast.
The Pennefather's big selling point is its yester-year Trading Posts. Named after gold-mining companies (Lonmin not among them), New Found Out is a vibrant mishmash of clothing and curiosity; Memory Hold-The-Door a second hand bookshop with roaring fire, and The Coffee Shop a cosy refilling station.
A delightful stop-off along memory lane.

The coffee at Pennefather is a winner and in the bookshop you will definitely find something. The fudge on the counter - to die for. Try all the restaurants - not one will disappoint.
