Budget Getaways Review

Whether you're heading up to neighboring Nam (Namibia) or to Namaqualand to experience the spring flowers, here's a no-nonsense B&B that will come in very handy on both counts.

Located on a farm just off the N7 (which you can hear), about 45 kays north of Clanwilliam, you would in fact be hard pressed to find a more pleasant and convenient overnight stop.

Your friendly hosts, the Prinsloo’s, run a tight ship here, and guests have nothing but praise for the family and their farm: “Hosts were very accommodating and helpful. Breakfast was a treat.” “Absolutely super. We booked for one night, stayed two, and again one night on the way back from the flowers.” “It is fantastic value for money, friendly staff, very accommodating, fantastic food and always clean.”

Looking at the accommodation itself, there are three B&B rooms, made up of two doubles (one of them ensuite) and a single. One of the doubles and the single (shared bathroom) can be combined as a family unit. All the units have garden views, air-con, DSTV and a bar fridge.

For a small family there's also the Garden Cottage, a stand-alone timber unit with ensuite bathroom. Kitted with double and single bed, the cottage also has DSTV, a bar fridge, microwave and tea- and coffee-making facilities. There is a small patio and garden views.

Back at the main house, you’ll find the dining room (with fireplace), where light meals, dinners and breakfasts are served. You'll also find a stoep and braai area leading onto the garden.

Wrapping up, Trawal cuts the mustard as a clean and well-managed value-for-money (R200pp incl. breakfast!) option for anyone taking the long slog north.

Guest Reviews

"We had a lovely time in Namaqualand and we spent our last night at Trawal B&B. The B&B is very well looked after and the overall experience was great. The hosts are friendly and helpful and we enjoyed every minute of our stay. I would definitely recommend them and will stay there again if we are in the area. Good value for money. They also invited us to join them for a Snoek braai the evening at a minimal charge."

"We landed up there by accident, but we will never stay anywhere else when we are in the vicinity. We really enjoyed our stay and we are telling everybody we know about the place. Everything was excellent, the facilities and specially the friendliness and hospitality of the owners. Very good value for our money."

"Hosts were very accommodating and helpful. Breakfast was a treat. We stayed in a quaint cottage and everything was clean and good quality. Good value for money."

"Absolutely super. We booked for one night, stayed two and again one more night on the way back from the flowers. Very friendly hospitable people. The meals were excellent and not expensive. They made us feel at home. Would stay there again!"
