Budget Getaways Review
A stylish and contemporary split-level pad with easy access to the beach and lagoon, Wilderness House is not only a great setting for that family holiday (with or without the in-laws), but also a neat package for a group of wannabe-yuppie friends on the take for an upmarket but affordable Garden Route stay.
Wilderness House comes decked with everything you need, from gorgeous lagoon and ocean views, a clean-cut modern vibe, lovely outdoor entertainment and braai area, coupled with a spacious living space with DSTV and free WiFi.
As far as your bed goes, you’ve got three bedrooms: a Queen with ensuite shower and ocean views, another sea-facing double, and a King that can easily be converted to a twin. The latter two rooms share a bathroom with bath and shower.
The living area is open-plan to a modern kitchen, with dining area opening onto a small terrace via stack-doors - your port of call for that early morning cuppa overlooking the Indian Ocean. Flowing off the other end of the living room is a larger patio with built-in braai.
There’s a single garage for the chariot, plus additional off-street parking.
The beach and lagoon are a mere stroll down the road, as is a collection of laid-back restaurants and coffee shops in the village.
For more outdoors in and around Wilderness, there's everything from day hikes to bike trails, beach walks, paragliding, boating, kayaking and fishing.
Summing it up: Clean modern lines, appealing setting, ocean views. What more could you ask for?
"Overall fantastic! Well equipped, comfortable, secluded and close to restaurants and beach. Loads of activities close by to keep the active ones like us very happy. Great walks into SANParks, paddle up the river, tennis and squash at the Hotel, walks on the beach and best of all canyoning in the Silver River with Greg. The house was perfect and we felt like we were special guests."
