• You will find it easier if you organize your description into specific headers, allowing a short paragraph for each: 'The setting', 'the accommodation', 'activities', 'nearby attractions', 'main selling point/s'.
     
  • Emphasize what is special or unique to your establishment e.g. faces a river, right next to a big 5 game reserve, brilliant value for money, etc.
     
  • Avoid the use of overly flowery language and excessive superlatives, as in... "At Bob's Place we guarantee a 'heaven-on-earth' experience. Our beautifully-decorated wendy house is ideally situated in our backyard, close to your friendly hosts Basil and Dee and a world class airport..."
     
  • At the same time, don't make the mistake of selling yourself short. If you firmly believe you have something special to offer, don't be shy to promote it.
     
  • Avoid the long-winded - in this age of information overload more does not equal better. Strive for that delicate balance between too much and too little info.
     
  • Be honest in your description, as concealed negatives have a nasty habit of biting back at some stage or the other. If your establishment lies across the way from a major highway, best you mention it.
     
  • Don't try be all things to all people. Ask yourself the question: Who is my establishment best suited to? If you can accurately answer this you are that much closer to accessing your specific target market and increasing your booking rate.
