Budget Getaways Review
A farm bordering the majestic Witzenberg Mountains near Tulbagh sets the scene for an uber comfy stay in this character stone cottage. 31 on Witzenberg is neat as a pin, spacious and ideal for a family or couple who want to escape the big smog for a few nights. What’s more this getaway is pet-friendly, Fido gets to join the party!
The cottage’s key characteristic is its covered, wrap-around verandah, a place where you can put your feet up, gaze out over a sunset or sunrise or keep the braai sizzling and the red wine flowing while the kids play cricket out on the lawn.
The cottage interior, equally as appealing as the exterior, is well equipped and spacious, furnished in simple, stylish tones and is well suited to four people. The main bedroom is ensuite, while the second bedroom with twin beds, shares a bathroom. Each bedroom opens out onto the patio via sliding doors.
The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you’d need for self-catering and is open plan to a comfortable living and dining area with indoor fireplace. Glass sliding doors lead out onto the patio.
Within walking distance is the communal swimming pool, a welcomed addition during the summer months and a great spot for the kids to hang out while you take a break.
In the nearby surrounds, there are plenty of gravel roads to head off on either by foot or bike, and of course hiking trails galore in the nearby mountains. Tulbagh itself is an interesting historical attraction and has some great galleries, restaurants and coffee shops. Oh, and did we mention a great spread of wine farms to explore?
