Hidden among lush forest and cascading waterfalls in the shadow of the Drakensberg, Bananien Lodge offers a “fabulous, restful and peaceful experience”, according to a recent guest.
The Lodge is just a short 40km drive from Kruger and serves as either an overnight stop or base from which to explore the wider Sabie area.
On offer are six four-sleeper log cabins, a three-sleeper rondavel and a spacious eight-sleeper house. Each unit is suitably equipped for self-catering, with all the odds and ends – sans bath, swimming and dish towels. Don't forget to pack your own.
All the units are open-plan and airy, with separate bathrooms. If you're traveling with a tribe of mates and would like more privacy, think about booking more than one cabin.
The private braai area and timber deck at each cabin is the perfect site to marvel those stunning Sabie sunsets.
Bananien offers some great on site activities, including a crystal blue swimming pool and a smaller splash pool that's sure to be a hit with the kiddie crowd.
For those of you keen on visiting the Kruger National Park and the 'Panorama Route', Bananien offers day trips to both in a luxury air-conditioned kombi.
