If rustic living is on your weekend agenda, Boschfontein Guest Farm will be right up your alley.
This off-the-grid guestfarm, 20 kays from Thabazimbi, is just the right blend of comfort and convenience, topped with a good helping of ruggedness.
The main farmhouse has six B&B rooms (a King, Queen and four twins), all with comfy beds and spacious ensuite bathrooms. If you're going this B&B route, you will be treated to a full-on breakfast with all the trimmings – a perfect kickstart to an adventure-packed day.
Boschfontein also has two self-catering chalets (a two- and six-sleeper), which are nestled about two kays further along. Both come with a well-equipped kitchen, lounge and verandah with awesome view of the Waterberg mountains.
A dip in the pool, an open-air game drive to spot various buck and wildebeest, general lazing about, day trips into the Thabazimbi heartland, it shouldn't be too difficult to lose track of time.
An old-school getaway with generous heart.
"Boschfontein is a lovely getaway, but then you should travel to the farm and remain there for the full duration of your stay. The road to the farm is a bumpy dirt road, and the road from the farm house to the self-catering cottages is a 2km stretch of bad road for which you need at least an LDV. We were not prepared for no electricity; we stayed there in order to attend functions in Thabazimbi, which made preparations difficult. Be sure to arrive in daytime to familiarize yourself with the area and the facilities. Friendly, helpful owners and indeed a spectacular view."

"We had a very relaxing stay at Boschfontein farm, in the chalet for 2 people. It is rustic accommodation with an outdoor kitchen using a gas fridge and oven, a 'donkey' boiler for hot water and a solar battery for lighting. The views are amazing and it was very peaceful! "

"A beautiful, tranquil place to stay. Old style farm hospitality from Louis Botha and his lovely wife. I stayed only one night but it felt like I have known the Botha's a long time. They went out of their way to make me feel at home, and Louis even took me for a drive to the far end of his farm, although this was not part of my reservation arrangements. My room for the night was comfortable and clean, and breakfast was super.I can recommend Boschfontein Guest Farm any time."

"We stayed 3 nights in the cottage. Back to nature. It was wonderful! Such a beautiful view, the only sounds were the monkeys and a kudu. Very friendly, helpful owners. Recommended!"
