Budget Getaways Review
Set on a smallholding facing the Outeniquas, just two kays from Hoekwil village, Camphor Tree Cottage is a beautifully renovated 1940’s farmhouse.
With exposed timber, gorgeous interior, stacked stone walls and impeccable attention to detail, Camphor also sits firmly in Budget Getaways 'jaw-dropper' territory.
Sleeping a total four gleeful guests, the cottage has a main ensuite bedroom that steps onto a covered patio, and a second bedroom with two singles. The bathroom for the latter has bath and shower. The beds are decked in percale linen.
The living area offers bucketloads of space and light, with exposed timber trusses and not one, but two sets of double doors spilling onto the patio and outdoor braai area.
A modern and fully-equipped kitchen is open-plan to the living area, where you'll find an eight-seater table, open hearth, comfortable couches, DSTV and Wifi.
Besides braai, the patio comes with seating and a hammock to flop around in all weekend.
Dragging yourself from this happy nest (painful indeed), there's a platter of action within a short drive - mountain bike options galore (with two routes kicking off right at your doorstep), a delightful coffee shop and art gallery down the road, canoes for hire on the nearby lakes in Wilderness, beaches and restaurants 8km away, horseriding, fishing, birdwatching and trail running on tap.
Style, attention to detail, lovely rural setting, you don't get much better than Camphor Tree Cottage.

"We were warmly welcomed by Jackson and shown around. The cottage is gorgeous and beautifully decorated with a well equipped kitchen and a bonus of wifi and DSTV! Our dogs loved the wraparound verandah and spent hours on it and were greeted by the lovely Ally and Louis (Camphor Labbies) now and again. Even though we never met Karin or Basil we felt welcome and at home and would definitely return to this beautiful cottage in this beautiful part of the world."
