Budget Getaways Review
Life slows down as you turn onto Highway West, a beautiful country road, leading you to Fernhill Guest Farm, which is situated just outside Knysna in the rural area of Rheenendal. This area is known for its proximity to the Goudvelde area of the Knysna forest, cycling and hiking trails, and cute eateries like the famous Tottie's Farm Kitchen, where every meal is an occasion.
Fernhill Guest Fram is a mere 15 minute drive to Knysna and the beautiful beach at Buffalo Bay, while only being 20 minutes away from Sedgefield, with its ever popular Saturday Wild Oats Market, so you will be spoiled for choice when looking for places to visit. Accommodation is offered in 4 self-catering Farm Cottages overlooking the farm camps where cows peacefully graze, creating the perfect setting to slow down, smell the fresh, clean air and enjoy a lingering braai with friends and family.
The four cottages are sitiated alongside each other and can each accommodate up to five guests. Thet are made up of two bedrooms (double and twin) a bathroom, and an open-plan kitchen, dining and living area and the most wonderful shady patio with built-in braai. A fifth guest can be accommodated on a single sleeper couch in the living area. The kitchens are well-equipped for self-catering. The cottages have an inside fireplace to keep you warm on the colder winter nights. There's free WiFi available in all the farm cottages if you need it.
For those who enjoy walks, there are many beautiful trails on the 56-hectare farm and you are welcome to bring your dogs, at a nominal fee, as the fully fenced cottages are pet friendly. This area is also very popular with mountain bikers, so bring your bicycle and explore this region that forms part of the Seven Passes Route between Knysna and George.
Fernhill Guest Farm is situated in a conservancy, so in addition to the farm animals, there is a lot of free roaming wildlife including bushbuck, bush pigs, leopard, monkeys, baboons, porcupines and a large variety of birds, so don't forget the binoculars.
A great option for your next Garden Route trip, if you're wanting to escape the Knysna crowds.
"I would definitely recommend this Getaway. If you are keen to visit/explore the Garden Route without having to spend a fortune on accommodation, then this is the ideal place to stay. It is a short drive to Knysna and surrounds. I would say that you get the best of both worlds..You get to have a relaxing little farm holiday away, as well as venturing out to visiting all the spots in Knysna and surrounds. The farm cottage was very comfortable and equipped with everything that we needed. Frequent visits from the horses on the farm as well as a surprise visit from one of the pet pigs. Great place for children, as they get to pet the animals. Amazing Hospitality! ..which makes all the difference."
