Budget Getaways Review
What we have here is the potentially perfect venue for that long overdue family reunion or gathering of close friends. ?
Looking at the pics and initial guest feedback Greenlands Farm is a majestic spot: a grand old Cape Dutch homestead perched over a vineyard and swathes of pristine fynbos, with the Langeberg peaks cut into the horizon.
This idyllic picture is to be found just off the R60 between Ashton and Swellendam, a mere 10 kays from Bonnievale.
While the house is 200m from a tar road, and according to the (honest) owner there is the occasional distant hum of traffic, this will only deter the complete and utter isolation seeker. For the most part though it will go completely unnoticed by your happy group.
The house sleeps a total of eight and has four bedrooms, three of which are ensuite. The main bathroom comes with freestanding Victorian bath facing onto the garden - soaking in the tub with a good book never sounded better. ??
Central to the enormous farmstyle kitchen is a 3m dining table and open fireplace; the kind of kitchen where memories and muscadel hangovers are made.
The kitchen leads out to an outdoor braai area. In summer your’ve got two covered voorstoeps shielding the front of the house. Add a few comfy couches and you have the perfect summer chill spot. ??
The inside living areas are all spacious, with a separate dining room and two lounge areas with interconnecting fireplace. One of the lounges serves time as a cosy winter library.??
If you can somehow extricate yourself from that stoep, there’s ample to keep you busy at Greenlands. Explore the farm's trails on mountain bike or foot, admire the pristine fynbos, pick grapes in season, dip in one of two farm dams, fish for bass, head into Bonnievale, go wine tasting… ??

"This is a really lovely, large house on a farm with a truly magnificent setting. Yes, you do hear the road, but it is really not a bother. The selection of stoeps to use depending on weather and view are super as was the indoor fireplace in the kitchen used for braaing and heating up the kitchen that has this lovely, big, wooden table where we ate and built puzzles. We went for long walks with our two large dogs and busy, young boys. They loved every minute. The bedrooms and bathrooms are spacious and the bedding and towels provided were fluffy, snugly and new. There is a separate scullery with a dishwasher and washing machine for longer visits. What a pleasure. The warm vetkoek on arrival were wolfed down and greatly appreciated."
