Budget Getaways Review
Sitting 14 kays from Bonnievale, Kampala Guest Farm is a lovely spot offering a wide range of accommodation and a function venue for that family bash, wedding or team bosberaad.
Diving right in, the venue area forms the central focus here, with a number of the accommodation units surrounding it. Backstage sits directly behind the venue and sleeps eight guests in two bedrooms (one double and one with two Queen beds). A further pair of Queen beds can be found in the living area. The equipped kitchen and living area are open-plan and lead onto a patio with mountain views.
Next up we have the seven Ensuite Rooms. These are semi-detached units with a long shared voorstoep. Each room sleeps two in double beds and have ensuite showers, bar fridges and tea- and coffee-making facilities.
Shepherd’s Dream is a free-standing stone house near the ensuite rooms. Originally a shepherd’s house and now restored, this one sleeps up to eight guests and has three double bedrooms, with two single beds in the living room. The kitchen and living area are cozy and sport a fireplace. The stoep and braai area have awesome views over the vineyards and orchards.
Casablanca and Santa Maria are separate stone houses set away from the main action. The houses however are within walking distance from each other, making this a good one for two families. Each sleeps ten and eight, respectively. Both houses have spacious living areas, covered voorstoep’s with mountain views and built- in braai’s.
For a smaller family or a couple, Kariba is a good bet, with plenty of privacy and a double bedroom. There are twin beds in the living room if the kids are coming along. Kariba is off grid, meaning you’ve got the glow of lanterns and candles to set the mood. The cottage has an outdoor bathroom and a covered stoep overlooking a dam.
Keeping busy here isn’t a problem at all, with plenty of hiking in the surrounding hills, and miles of farm roads for cycling. There’s also Bonnievale a short drive away.
Plenty of options and a great location, Kampala Guest Farm is a good bet for just about anyone and their entourage heading to the Breede River Valley.
