Budget Getaways Review
Situated on the outskirts of Swellendam, and sporting dramatic mountain vistas, Moffid’s Place is a combination of old-world country charm and gentrified urban elegance. The type of place where you'd expect to find a coatstand of tweed jackets and a drinks cabinet sporting fine scotch at the ready for the master and hounds' return from the hunt.
Thankfully, the vibe at Moffid’s is far from stuffy and and the accommodation is pegged at an affordable rate.
Drilling into the details, there are four guest rooms, two of these with mountain views. Moffid’s Room is a rather romantic setup with ensuite bathroom (with free-standing bath), and a Rapunzel-style balcony overlooking the garden and pool area. Hanno’s Room and Phillip’s Room are spacious doubles, the latter with a view over the farm and mountains. These rooms share a private bathroom located off the hallway. Simon’s Room is a good option for couples, with its own private entrance from the courtyard, a small study, and an ensuite bathroom with free-standing bath.
All the rooms are stylishly decorated and include percale linen and bath towels, as well as free WiFi.
The shared living spaces at Moffid’s comprise a spacious dining and lounge area with a large open-hearth fireplace for winter; a library to while away the hours sifting through leather-bound books; a garden, courtyard and swimming pool. Whatever your pick, there's plenty of space to relax here.
Sitting just on the urban outskirts, it's an easy hop into town for morning coffee or dinnner at one of many restaurants. Likewise, accessing the surrounding trails and hikes is a doddle.
As an overnighter or a longer stay, Moffid’s Place offers a great Swellendam base, with affordable rates and ample in the way of comfort and charm.
