Budget Getaways Review
Like the name suggests, this humble little flat-roofed structure was once home to a pampered herd of goats.
It's come a little way since and chances are the original residents wouldn't recognise their old kraal - today it's an elegant weekend refuge featuring light and earthy tones, screed floors and antique furnishings.
The Goat Shed is optimally suited to couples on that annual Overberg meander.
Sitting on a rambling property on the outskirts of the village, the main homestead lies about 10m away - the garden outlook however ensures adequate privacy.
Examining the nuts and bolts, what you have here is a spacious open-plan setup with exposed timber beams, a double bed covered in fine linen, an ensuite bathroom with the mod-cons of free-standing bath and twin basins, the nice touch of hot outdoor shower, and a small kitchenette.
Sliding doors zip open to a timber deck and gentle views over lawned garden and a small winding stream further down below. Peace and tranquillity are the general order of the day.
If you haven't managed to rid yourselves of the kids, or need additional sleeping space, the caravan alongside the cottage, sleeps two comfortably at no additional cost.
Mozing out, you can quite easily fill a Saturday morning swanning around the village: small galleries, ceramic studios, antique dealers, candle makers, Pascal's Restaurant, rugby at the local pub.
Further afield there's Stanford, Bredasdorp and Arniston, all with their own appeal, as well as potential for mountain biking, horse riding and long walks.
From goat shed to comfy country cottage, a failsafe call for couples not too fazed by absolute privacy.
"The pictures of the accommodation on the website enticed us and it definitely delivered! The large bath and outside shower were a real highlight. Our gracious hosts also own a coffee shop and packed a wonderful picnic basket for us. Napier is a delightful town full of wonderful restaurants and farmstalls. The Fox Restaurant and Pub is worth a visit."

"We had a very good time at the Goat Shed. The garden on the little river is stunning and the house was neat and clean. The bathroom is amazing and the bath with view on the garden is a plus. We also used the outside shower. The guest house is located in the cute Napier Town and in a perfect place to discover the beauty Cape Algulhas has to offer. The host was friendly and really welcoming."
