Budget Getaways Review

Let’s dive right into the guest book on this one: “Rural luxury.” “This is an absolutely beautiful place to be.” “Gorgeous luxury decor.” “The accommodation is superb, the scenery beautiful.” You get the picture.

Originally a wine cellar built back in 1905, De Wilge is a getaway with understated class.

Beautifully restored by hosts Amanda and Martin, it features two luxury apartments gazing over a pretty picture of landscaped garden with swimming pool, and distant Langeberg mountains. All accommodation options at De Wilge combine modern finishes with antique furnishings.

Looking at the three luxury self-catering units, namely Tango, Lemon and Lime. Each unit sleeps four and has two bedrooms, two units have king beds, while Lime has a queen bed. The second bedroom in each has twin beds. The attention to detail and mod-con/home comfort list is impressive: DSTV, air-con throughout, WiFi, ensuite bedrooms with four-poster beds, percale linen and soft bath towels, manicured garden, crystal clear pool, and even a hot tub jacuzzi on the verandah of Tango, also known as the honeymoon suite.

The living area in each is light and spacious (with fireplace). The kitchen is open-plan and equipped. The main bedroom and living area spill onto the roomy patio.

Alternatively, there are two en-suite rooms in the Manor House would be a perfect stay-over spot for weary travellers. Coffee making facilities are available in each room.

While there isn't much reason to stray beyond the pool, you do have options: farm strolls, leisurely cruises on your mountain bike, wine farms, good restaurants within easy reach, 4x4 routes.

An elegant break in a pretty corner of the Cape.
