From R902 to R1900, depending on unit, guests and time of year
Eikelaan is for those who like their bread with a thick layer of full cream butter.
On offer at this neat working farm with wheat, vines and cattle is a pair of semi-detached luxury units and a newly added two-bedroomed cottage, all fronted by an open vista of green fields merging into blue mountain – an appealing contrast of the soft and rugged.
The cottages are light and airy and decorated in natural hues and textures. Wide windows and double doors drench the interior in light, terracotta floors inject the rustic country edge, offset by warm sisal mats, natural cream curtains, crisp white linen and thick duvets.
All have indoor fireplaces, makeing for cozy winters in a corner of the world where snow on the nearby mountains isn't uncommon. On the other hand, if you’re dropping in during the summer months you’ll be thrilled to know the units have air-con and overhead fans, as well as easy access to a swimming pool (with lapa).
Factoring in the sleeper couch, the two one-bedroomed units, the Witzenberg and the Obiekwa, theoretically sleep four, but are realistically designed for two adults – with or without offspring.
The Winterhoek, a two-bedroomed cottage is suited to a larger family, and sleeps up to six, with a en suite, queen-sized main bedroom and a second twin room and central bathroom. The living room has a further two single stack beds.
Stepping outside, the smaller cottages share a tiled patio and a broad stretch of green lawn, while the larger unit has its own stoep, with outside braai
Venturing further afield, the farm has three dams for dunking and fishing for carp, plenty of wide open space for bracing walks between high tea and dinner, as well as a barnyard of farm animals and nervous buck roaming the fields.
For a comfortable and undemanding weekend in the country that will suit both discerning locals and tourists, Eikelaan is the way to go.
