Does your family suffer from one of the following?: 1) Pooch digging holes under the Vibracrete fence 2) Kids building a BMX track in the lounge 3) Hubbie trading in Rooi Roos for Wegbreek.
If the answer is 'Yes' to any of the above it's time to stop, consider, and head for some wide open African sky. And no better place to do it than Miskloof Farm - pooch, kids and husbands are all most welcome.
A speck on a vast landscape, ESCAPE is the operative word at Miskloof. One thousand hectares, no cell reception, no electricity… Question is, are you up for this?
If you're not too sure you can bring along a support group, as the accommodation - a converted barn-warehouse - holds up to 10 adults, plus additional space for another kid/hound or two.
To be more precise, the building has two double bedrooms ensuite, a single and double bed in another room, a further room with double bed and another sporting three extra singles.
The lounge, dining and kitchen are open-plan; all kitchen equipment, gas fridge, gas stove (no oven), and an enclosed indoor braai room set the scene for cosy conviviality.
Outdoor options? Where do we start 'cause the list seems endless. The pool/dam and deck make for idyllic soak-ups Karoo rays, while the sundowner deck begs for triple G&Ts as the sun dips behind the mountains.
Venturing out, there is plenty room to roam into the surrounding hills and rewards of awesome views. Definitely bring your mountain bike (and those pesky BMX’s) for the miles of meandering farm track. You're even allowed to bring your own motorbike or quad bike.
For the softer of heart the farm bursts into colour between June and September, while the winter months often bring a blanket of snow.
What's that about your iPad? Afraid it aint gonna work here, as the signal is pretty sketchy. We haven't been there but it seems this is a group escape with a difference - a unique place to re-bond with those you've sort of lost touch with - including the family hound.
