Set amidst a tranquil Klein Karoo setting in the Dwarsrivier Valley, about 15km from Ladysmith, the skyline beyond Oaksrest Vineyards is broken only by the jagged peaks of the Swartberg, with Towerkop itself looking down over the farm. Here you’ve great range of accommodation options, plenty of open space, a big farm dam and even a wedding venue (if you’re looking for a spot to tie the knot - Karoo style).
Moving right onto the accommodation. The Oaksrest platter is indeed a diverse one. First up is Pinotage Farmhouse, a lovingly restored historic building (which once housed the Dwarsrivier school), the house sleeps up to nine guests, with four bedrooms (two ensuite and two with aircon) and four bathrooms. The spacious kitchen is fully equipped…there’s even a dishwasher. The living area has an open fireplace for winter, there’s also an outside braai and lapa. The beds are decked out with percale linen and electric blankets. WiFi and a HD TV are also included.
Chenin Blanc Cottage sits slightly elevated on a hillside and has gobsmacking views out over the farm. This eight sleeper has two bedrooms (double and twin) on ground level and another four single beds in the loft. The two bathrooms are ensuite to the ground floor bedrooms. There’s a well-equipped kitchen, a wood burning stove for winter ambiance as well as WiFi and a HD TV if you need it. Step outside and you’ll find a deck leading off the living area with built in braai. You’ve also got a private braai lapa against the mountain side.
Crimson Cottage is a great choice for the romantics, this uber-cozy little two sleeper is styled in a combination of classic Karoo with a modern edge. Also enjoying beautiful views out over the farm, Crimson has a free-standing bathtub, percale linen and a well-equipped kitchen. From the patio, you’re gazing out over the Swartberg. As with the other cottages, there’s also WiFi and HD TV.
For the die-hard camping enthusiasts, there are four well laid out campsites, dotted around the farm dam and jetty. Each stand sleeps a maximum of six, are both well grassed and shaded and have electrical points. The central ablution has hot showers, a washing machine, tumble dryer and fridge-freezer. There are also braai facilities for each camp.
There’s ample to keep you busy as well, from farm walks, miles of gravel roads to explore by bike, swimming on the farm dam or just enjoying the tranquility of this magical setting. Families, friends and couples, here’s a Klein Karoo gem just waiting for you.
