Fact: At some point or another everyone suffers from the Hermanus itch...
Be it the chance of getting up close and personal with the barnacles of a Southern Right whale, sitting at a pavement cafe watching half of Cape Town drift by, chilling under a brolly at Grotto beach with a good book and soft-serve at hand, hiking, biking or golfing. For the adrenaline junkies, shark cage diving, white water rafting, quad biking or zipline canopy tours should feed your fix. Fact is, the occasional hungry yearning for Hermanus is one of those little mysteries of life.
So, given this inevitable biogical fact, where to stay when you get to the whale capital? The Potting Shed certainly cuts the mustard.
This friendly spot offers two self-catering apartments in nearby Tobago Bay, only 3km from the town centre in a quiet and well-to-do security estate, with pool and squash court a spilt G&T away.
Similar in layout, but with a décor twist to each, one apartment has a double and twin bedded room, while the other unit has two queen bedrooms. The apartments are ideal for just a couple or a small family.
The living area is comfortably furnished and opens onto a sea-facing patio with gas braai and superb views over Walker Bay.
With a fully equipped open-plan kitchen, bathroom with shower and bath, washing machine, WiFi internet, DSTV (at one apartment), Netflix and Showmax (at the other) and bed linen provided, organising a weekend at The Potting Shed involves little more than getting your weary body there, parking the Range Rover, and start living the good life.
All in all, from R1750 a night for the unit (minimum two night’s stay) The Potting Shed makes for good value along an otherwise costly coastline.
Pack the beach toys, the kids (if you must) and other cant-do-without weekend paraphernalia and head for The Potting Shed - just what the doc ordered for the Hermanus itch.
