A private and exclusively booked campsite and central living area on the banks of the Breede River, 34 km south of Swellendam, Breede Bush Camp is certainly a good bet for the nature lover.
Simply laid out, this back to basics setup has solar powered lighting, a central kitchen, braai area and bathroom, all within easy reach of the four canvas dome tents, dotted along the river banks on raised wooden platforms, with viewing decks in front of each.
Focussing on the tents. Two tents are equipped with double beds, the other two are decked out with two single beds in each. And each tent is privately positioned and surrounded by a wooden screen, as well as equipped with a nightstand and battery powered lantern.
The lounge, kitchen and dining area is a short walk from the tents. This building is central to a large open lawn, with a fire pit and braai area. The kitchen is equipped, and includes gas cooker and fridge. The dining area has a large dining table and the living area has a scattering of couches and a fireplace.
The bathroom, housed in the same building is made up of a shower, basin and loo. Bath towels are provided, just bring your own swimming towels.
Activity wise, there is quite a platter to keep you busy. The river is the key focus here, so swimming, fishing, canoeing (One canoe is available, otherwise bring your own) and other water activities should keep you cooled off in summer. There are an endless number of gravel loops nearby for mountain biking. Nice day trips include the back route to the Malgas pont (26km away) and a trip to feast on the famous roosterkoek at Oude Post Bistro (23km away).
