Budget Getaways Review

The setting for this rural getaway is a working grape farm between the Olifants and Doring Rivers, 30km south of Clanwilliam. It’s a place where you’ve got oodles of space to explore, mountain bike, birdwatch along the water courses or fish in the farm dam.

The accommodation comes in the form of a newly renovated, four bedroomed farmhouse - one of those 1960’s relics where space was never an object, so expect to be able to kick back and spread yourself out here. Two of the bedrooms have queen beds, the main bedroom being ensuite. The other two rooms have twin beds and share a bathroom. Capacity totals at 8 making it a great option for a bunch of friends, or two families sharing.

The kitchen is well equipped (even a dishwasher here), while there’s a separate lounge and dining area. Step outside onto the covered patio and you’ll find a built in braai, outdoor dining table and a swimming pool. Beyond that, you’ve got a large lawned garden area, which is enclosed. Added extras include WiFi, a table tennis table and a ceramic fireplace indoors to keep the winter chill at bay.

As this is a working farm, guests are asked to be aware of tractors and general farm activities going on around the property. Farm strolls and miles of gravel roads to explore are all within easy reach of the farm house, as is the farm dam for fishing of course.

Exploring further afield, you can head over to the nearby Klawer winery or make your way towards the coast to explore Lambert’s Bay or the legendary Muisboskerm open-air seafood restaurant, less than an hour down the drag.

With plenty to do both on and off the farm, as well as comfortable accommodation, Die Boervrou makes a great base to explore the area or just immerse yourself in a bit of rural chill time.
