Budget Getaways Review

Fairfield takes the form of three tastefully renovated cottages at the foot the Skurweberge Mountains, on 100 hectares of working fruit farm, with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and the Ceres valley.

From the vantage point of your vine covered porch, you can enjoy sundowners, while watching the mountains basking in the fading sun or catch that full moon rise. All in all, the setting is superb.

In all three cottages nature is brought close to home by way of local rock, reed and wood... The outdoor 'mountain bath' at the Mountain Spring Eco Cottage is embedded in an outcrop of rock and solar heated, while the outdoor 'mountain shower' at Klipspringer Cottage lies under three towering pines, with awesome mountain views. All this at a reasonable price tag.

While most guests seem content to do nothing in particular, other than tossing the occasional log into the fire or lounging about in the plunge pool, Fairfield has scope for an active weekend. For starters you can step out the front door and explore 10 000ha of mountain, ticking off the birdlife as you go.

Alternatively, take a mini hike to see the small bushman paintings via the Bushman Route. There's also the option of strolling the farm roads via the Peach Route and Pear Route. Fishing, canoeing, mountain biking and bird watching can be done on the farm.
