Budget Getaways Review

Fourfields Hogsback is the highest residence in altitude in Hogsback on which the self-catering cottage is situated. Being the highest property in Hogsback, Fourfields normally experiences snow first ... but, we admit, this is also at the upper end of our budget range.

The self-catering cottage sits on a private 2.4-hectare piece of land, situated 4km from central Hogsback.

The finishes are a mix of styles, used to create a unique interior that is welcoming and relaxing. Exposed log beams, Italian style stucco plaster, screeded floors, executive roller blinds in living areas, custom kitchen cabinetry, modern bathroom fixtures are all part of our mix of interior touches used to reflect style and quality.

This family cottage can accommodate up to 6 guests. One bedroom with a queen bed, second bedroom with a double bed equipped with electric blankets and 2 x single beds in the loft. Open-plan living area with a Smart Tv and Netflix as well as a wood burning fire place. The Fully Equipped modern Kitchen offers a wide range of crockery and cutlery.

There is a guest toilet as well as a bathroom with Toilet, basin and shower with heated towel rail. For the more adventurous there is also an outdoor shower.

A covered verandah at the front of the Cottage is the perfect place to have early morning coffee, a drink or two in the afternoon followed by a Braai on the Gas Braai in the evenings.

The Hogsback area  said to have inspired J.R.R Tolkein to write his Lord of the Rings trilogy, so you can imagine the dramatic splendour of the place. Hogsback is named after three mountain peaks, which look something like the wild hogs that frequent the forest, and trails through the forest are marked with hogs of different colours to denote various walks.

The peace and quiet of the little village of Hogsback, the lower regions of which sometimes lie encased in snow during winter, are broken only by the intermittent call of the Knysna Lourie and the chatter of Samango monkeys; and if the forests don’t tempt you, the gardens of Hogsback will.
