Budget Getaways Review

Yip, we get it, this isn’t your typical budget getaway. While we know you’re gawking at the nightly rate (R12k per night isn’t exactly BG territory), you need to think creatively on this one. If you’re wanting to take ownership of this gorgeous spot for a weekend or two, you’re going to need to rally the troops. Sleeping a whopping 28 guests, if you’ve got the numbers, this can certainly become a budget getaway with a difference. Plus, Fido gets to come along to this one, but please be sure to request this when booking.

Right, now that we’ve got you thinking along the right lines, let’s take a nose around the house…or should we say palace. Setting the scene, this beautiful home lies centrepiece to 95 hectares of private farmland, surrounded by swathes of fynbos in the historic Land van Waveren Valley, near Tulbagh. From just about every vantage point, you’re gazing out over rural vistas and a horizon of jagged mountains peaks.

Bedrooms come in the form of nine comfortably furnished rooms, each one ensuite to its own private bathroom. All rooms are decked out in percale linen, towels are included in the bathrooms and each room has a private balcony. All rooms are located on the first floor.

Down on ground level you’ve got the entertainment area with a large open plan kitchen, fully equipped with everything you’d need. The lounge is spacious, has a fireplace and leads onto a dining hall with dining table and seating for the full 28 guests. Leading off from the lounge and dining area is a balcony with outdoor furnishings and an undercover braai area. From here you can also access the central courtyard, which also has an additional self-contained bedroom with fireplace, bathroom and kitchenette.

Just when you thought this place couldn’t get any bigger, let’s head on up to the top level. It’s all about entertainment up here, with a large lounge, bar, pool table, TV and WiFi on tap. You’ve also got the swimming pool and hot tub up here…there’s no doubt you could while away a good few hours of chill time checking out those views as well.

Being in rural surrounds like this, there are walks and hikes on the farm itself, you can fish in the dam (bring your own fishing rods), mountain bike on the many gravel roads or head out and explore the surrounding wine farms, not to mention the delights of Tulbagh village down the road.

So get creative, round up the numbers and give this one a try, we say it’s a great recipe for an epic group getaway.
