Budget Getaways Review

Social, fun, easy-going, friendly staff, and skirting the water's edge within Cape Columbine Reserve, Sea Shack is a getaway that’s without doubt, entirely unique.

Here the shimmering Atlantic is sheltered by the gentle curve of a secluded and unspoilt bay stretching out in front of 10 artist-inspired timber beach shacks. In a nutshell… you’d go a long way to find a setting like this.

As one might well expect, the guest feedback that's come flooding in for Sea Shack confirms the above. “Worth every penny and more.” “So much planning and detail went into this beautiful place.” "This spot is like no other, placed in the most tranquil bay that feels a million miles away.” Okay, we're sold.

Let's take a look at your bed for the weekend. All 10 shacks are off-the-grid (naturally - but there is solar) and arranged like sentries guarding the ocean in two rows - the front row packing uninterrupted sea views from your pillow.

Sleeping two, each is painted in light tones and sports twin or double bed options. Linen is supplied, but not towels. The bathrooms take the form of four communal ablutions, with hot showers and eco loos.

The social hub of the camp is the boma, firepit and central kitchen area, where cooking up the day’s catch is de rigeur, and where fireside tales carry on into the wee hours. The kitchen is fully-equipped for self-catering.

Out and about, you’ve got hiking and fishing options galore, a labyrinth to wander about in, yoga classes on Saturday morning, a good platter of board games to get stuck into, a few restaurants 5km up the beach, and sundowners in front of sunsets that’ll knock your holey socks off.

The verdict: Robinson Crusoe beach living personified.
