Budget Getaways Review

If you’re looking for a quiet bush break without the hassle and fuss of having to lug your camping gear with you, then The Storytellers glamping experience is for you. The Storytellers organic farm with fynbos apothecary is nestled right alongside the wilderness area on Vleiplaas Farm, in the heart of Rocklands, northern Cederberg, which is world-famous for its bouldering and rocky beauty. The off-grid safari tents offer privacy, peace and quiet while keeping you close to various hiking trails, climbing areas and swimming options. At The Storytellers, we believe in keeping it as simple as possible. The glamping luxury safari tents can accommodate between 4 to 7 people, and they are furnished with comfortable queen-size, double, single or bunk beds. The cosy tents have private bathrooms with a shower only, or a bath and shower. Hot water is generated off-grid by solar, gas or donkey boiler. The kitchenettes are equipped with 2-plate stoves, and energy-efficient electrical fridges. Please note, there is electricity for charging devices, but Wi-Fi access is not available. Cell phone access is limited to MTN. The Storytellers has a true, close-to-nature experience with spectacular mountain views and walking trails, set in fynbos with wildlife all around you. Guests have various swimming options, including a gorgeous dam, a waterfall with spectacular views and clean, shallow rockpools for the kids.

Area Information

The Agter-Pakhuis Valley marks the northern reach of the Cederberg mountains as they fade out into the rolling hills of the Karoo. The valley itself is just more than 20km East of the main town of Clanwilliam, as one would drive to get to the historic Moravian village of Wupperthal or heading out to Calvinia. The Pakhuis mountain itself is estimated to be more than 20-million years older than the Cederberg's central and southern formations. This prehistoric complex is home to several unique plant and wildflower species, as well as leopard, rooikat, baboon, mountain hare, porcupine and a plethora of other wild creatures. The valley hosts an incredibly dense gallery of !Xam and Khoi rock paintings and sites of archaeological interest. Historically, farming (livestock, select vegetables, olives and rooibos tea) has been the mainstay of the local community. In the last decade, tourism has also become a cornerstone of the local economy.
