Budget Getaways Review

This beautiful working fruit farm is a nature-lovers utopia. Tucked away in a secluded valley, set along the lower slopes of the Mosterhoek Twins near Ceres, there’s a great range of activities as well as accommodation options for families, couples or a bunch of friends.

Taking a look at the accommodation, this comes in the form of two luxury cottages, two semi-detached chalets, a sprawling farmhouse, a couples  cottage and a private campsite…wowza, pack the cuzzies, invite the neighbours, there’s space for everyone here!

Kicking off with the two plush cottages, Royal Beaut (sleeps 6) and Royal Gala (sleeps 6), each has two queen bedrooms decked in percale linen. The main bathrooms are ensuite and there's an additional shared bathroom in each cottage. The units have well-equipped kitchens, comfortable living spaces (both have double sleeper couches in the living room), super outdoor decks with braai areas and awesome views. You’ve also got WiFi and DSTV.

Heading on to the chalets, Sauvignon Blanc and Ruby Cabaret each sleep four. A little more basic than the cottages, semi-detached, yet not less appealing, they’re well suited to small families or even couples. The units have one bedroom with queen beds and a set of bunk beds for kids. The living, kitchen and dining area are open plan and lead out onto sun-drenched patios with braai areas. There are also indoor fireplaces.

For the crowds, Yellow Cling Farmhouse is ideal. This sprawling six bedroom farmhouse can accommodate 12 guests. The main bedroom has a queen bed plus additional sleeper couch, there are two additional bedrooms with queen beds, a converted “patio room” with a queen bed and finally two rooms with twin beds. Bathrooms tally up to three in total. There’s a well equipped farm kitchen, a dining and living room with fireplace and a patio, braai area and boma.

For couples wanting a little privacy, Forelle Loft is a cozy little two sleeper cottage set in a valley. Forelle has a queen bedroom, ensuite bathroom with shower and an open plan kitchenette and living area. The living area has comfy couches, a dining table and opens out onto a patio and braai area.

For the 4x4 crowd and hardened outdoor addicts, Cheeky Campsite can cater for a total of 20 or up to five vehicles and 4x4 trailers. Booked exclusively, you won’t be sharing with others. Nestled up between the slopes of the mountain, the camp has no electricity, but does have hot showers and a washing up / kitchen area.

As far as activities go, there’s a healthy platter of outdoor action here, from canoeing and fishing on the farm dams, mountain biking on the many farm roads or take to the three hiking trails into the mountains. Further afield you’ve got wine farms galore, horse trails and zip-line adventures to get stuck into.

Close to Cape Town with a range of great value accommodation and plenty to keep you all busy. This is a getaway that ticks a box for just about everyone.
