If you're seeking true escape, Brinksfontein is the real deal.
Sixty-five kays from Sutherland and jammed against a rugged backdrop of Moordenaars Karoo peaks, this tastefully renovated farmhouse offers big skies, oodles of space and deafening silence.
The farmhouse is simply furnished, comes with a mix of wooden and screeded floors and plenty in the way of space and comfort. What’s more, it’s off-grid, has a gas geyser for hot water and zilch in the way of cell phone signal. Like we said, the real deal.
The house sleeps a total eight guests. You’ve got two bedrooms, one with double and three-quarter bed, the second with twin beds.
The bathroom is shared, with loo, shower and basin. There’s also an uithuis with loo and hot shower.
The kitchen and living area are open-plan and feature dining table, indoor braai and fireplace, gas fridge and freezer and plenty of magazines, books and board games for evening entertainment.
The living area leads onto a covered stoep with outdoor braai area and fire pit, and “Karoo jacuzzi” - an old sheep drinking trough converted into a splash pool for the summer swelter.
Keeping busy at Brinksfontein spans a decent choice of options - hikes in the hills, exploring the farm on mountain bike, long stretches of back roads to venture down, braaing to heart's content, getting stuck into a marathon game of Monopoly.
Wrapping it up, this is a getaway that plonks you in the heart of a little-known corner of the Karoo. Are you up for the challenge?
