Kam’Bati, a 5km drive off the N2 and 25km from Swellendam, is aimed at nature lovers and families out for a relaxed weekend of caravaning and camping alongside the Riviersonderend and Breede River.
It's a privately-owned resort framed by fynbos and aloes, and sitting peacefully under giant eucalyptus trees, with grassed sites - all with power points.
Apart from the camping options, you've also got the choice of five self-catering cabins, ranging from a two sleeper couples cabin to larger two-bed units, all fitted with linen and DSTV.
Further convenience is provided by way of a sociable lapa. The 'state of the art' ablution facilities are clean, with gas geysers for hot water.
There is also a small function venue equipped with audio and video, an industrial kitchen, and a veranda that overlooks the river, with tables, chairs and a built-in braai. As such Kambati can be booked for small conferences and other occasions.
Kambati is activity-packed and a hit among kids. The attractions include two swimming pools with a 60m supertube, a challenging 4x4 route laid out along the river, short walks, birdwatching (including fish eagle), and swimming, canoeing and fishing in the river - apparently the latter is very good, with carp, bass, eel, springer and barbel in abundance.
We haven't been there yet, but from what we hear Kambati is just the place for families and friends and other happy campers.
