R1500 nightly for the cottage. No children allowed.
Best we set the record straight before we get cracking on this one: those new low-profiles on your Corsa bakkie ain’t going to cut the mustard here. Klipspringer on the Groot Toren mountain top requires a suitable 4x4 with good ground clearance just to get to the cottage. Anything less than that and you're going to need some help getting home before your adventure has even begun.
Right, let's change gear and start climbing. From word go you’ll be clawing your way up the Groot Toren through virgin fynbos and proteas, eventually peaking at Klipspringer Cottage - a secluded refuge perched on a gentle slope, circled by 1000ha of fynbos and views to eternity and back.
The cottage is a rustic stone-and-thatch number, sleeping a total two guests and fitted with basic comforts required for a night or two at altitude, including solar lighting and gas geyser for hot water.
The pitched thatch roof houses a mezzanine loft room with double bed, while down at ground zero you’ll find the living area.
The kitchenette is a simple affair, with kettle, gas cooker, dining table and a welcome indoor braai/fireplace - ask any Souf Efrican Everest climber, it's no fun braaing your chop in the snow.
The bathroom has a loo and shower.
Throw open the double doors leading off the living room onto a timber deck and max out on those views. Alternatively, stay in bed and gaze upon them through big loft windows.
Early morning or evening strolls are standard fare, as are the awesome sunsets and deafening silence.
Flipping through the Klipspringer guestbook all appears to meet Captain Getaway's discerning eye: “Spectacular day and night views.” “What an amazing place!” “All the ingredients for an unforgettable holiday.”
If you’re up for adventure and have the wheels to match, Klipspringer is for you.
