Budget Getaways Review

Just over the hill from Knysna and just up the road from Buffalo Bay, The Riverdeck Guesthouse is a character farmhouse of old, which has been lovingly converted into four, cozy, two-sleeper guest suites.

Set in lush surrounds, just across the road from the Riverdeck Restaurant and farm stall, you’ve got easy access to great meals, coffee and of course the restaurant setting, overlooking the dark waters of the Goukamma River.

Taking a look at the accommodation itself. Wonky walls, timber beams, oodles of charm and stylish furnishings are the name of the game at Riverdeck.

The four rooms of varying configurations are spacious and well appointed. Love - well suited to couples, includes a free standing bath in the bedroom, as well as a private patio and garden. Hope, is a larger unit and also includes a tub in the room, but makes use of the full length communal patio.

Joy and Peace are smaller, compact units and have showers only and share the full-length patio. All rooms have queen beds, towels and quality linen.

Off the patio, you’ve got a plunge pool, which makes for a great, post-beach cool down in the summer months.

Heading out to explore from here offers up plenty of options. From the long stretch of beach between Buffalo Bay and Brenton on Sea, to the Goukamma mouth and its tranquil lagoon, not to mention the canoeing options on the Goukamma River. Knysna itself is a short drive away, while Sedgefield is also within easy reach.

If you’re heading through the Garden Route, or looking for a great base to explore Knysna and surrounds from, Riverdeck looks like a real charmer.

Additional Info

  • Near the Guest House is the old Post office that has been converted into a charmingChapel with Sunday Church service. It is ideal for small wedding receptions. Our room Love displays the first indoor water tap on the farm ( there is rumors of a friendly ghost in the building as well) maybe this is not a good advertisement.;)
  • There are daily Wifi Vouchers available for our Guest Rooms, Restaurant and Farm Stall.
  • Hire a canoe or boat and paddle down the Goukamma river!
  • Bring your hiking boots and walk along the train trek or hike on the amazing forest and coast line trails in the area.
  • Bring your golfing gear! The Simola Gold course is just a 10 min drive away.
  • Bring your surfboard, we have a great surfing beach just 5 min drive away! On the property is the famous Kiff surfshop were boards are bought and fixed! Or you can take lessons and learn to surf!
