Budget Getaways Review
Down the Rheenendal road and nibbling a fringe of gorgeous Knysna forest, this pair of timber abodes on a smallholding has already generated its share of gushing feedback. But two examples: “Go for yourself, you won’t be disappointed!” “Marvellous location with great views of the nearby forest.”
From hiking, mountain biking, forest trails and of course nearby Totties Restaurant, which serves a kick-ass Sunday buffet (booking essential), the general location couldn't be finer.
Both cottages exude that typical Knysna rustic charm, with plenty in the way of privacy and mystical forest views.
Taking a closer poke-around, first up is Elephant Rest Forest Cottage - the larger of the two, with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The cottage sleeps six comfortably; the living area is spacious and open-plan to an equipped kitchen; the fireplace and comfy couches tick the winter getaway box; a lovely covered deck leads onto the lawned garden and fire-pit.
For couples or a small family we have The Cosy Cabin, a private four-sleeper, which has two bedrooms (double and twin), an open-sided undercover kitchen, one ensuite bathroom and a hot outdoor shower. This tidy little number comes with a private garden which has its own braai area.
Both cottages are fully equipped, with all linen and towels provided.
Keeping busy is a doddle here. There are two bikes available to hire - better still, bring your own if the local forest trails are on your hitlist. There are adjacent walks into the forest, and a farm dam for a bracing plunge. Knysna is a 20-minute drive from the farm, and the beach at Buffalo Bay not much further than that.
Comfortable and charming cottages, a great location on the forest edge, plenty in the area to keep you busy, happy guests to vouch for the experience, what more do you really need, other than Book-and-Go!

"Our hosts communicated with us as to our bookings and confirmed them, Brett met us at the front door, showed us around the home and the garden. The home had lovely touches, fresh flowers and fresh muffins on the dining room table. Adela had sewed lovely patterns on the curtains and painted the walls with motifs. The home was absolutely clean and inviting. Home from home."
