Budget Getaways Review
A recent guest review of Salt River Lodge says it all, “The lodge is fantastic, in a beautiful location opposite the lagoon and very peaceful. Getting up in the morning is a real pleasure and the people are so friendly and helpful.” Well, we reckon you can’t ask for much more than that from a getaway, and this lagoon-side gem certainly does seem to keep its patrons happy.
Looking at the location, The Salt River is in fact an estuary which leads into the Knysna lagoon, and you guessed it, Salt River Lodge is nestled in amongst green lawns, right on the banks of the river.
Made up of four comfortable, well-appointed two bedroom apartments, each facing out towards the river and leading down onto the lodge lawns and communal swimming pool. Two of the units are upstairs (Cottage 1 & 2) with balconies, while the two ground floor units (Cottage 3 & 4) open out directly onto the lawn. All cottages have one double room and one twin, while Cottage 1 only has one bathroom, the remainder have two. Common to all is free WiFi and DSTV.
Adjacent to the units is a central braai area - a great spot to flip a chop and enjoy a sundowner around the swimming pool. Oh, and did we mention there’s a pool table for you to enjoy as well.
The location of Salt River Lodge is ideal. It’s an easy walk down to the Knysna Waterfront, or enjoy a morning stroll along the lagoon path. Main Street, restaurants and coffee shops are all a short stroll away. You’re also on the right side of town for an easy jaunt over to Buffalo Bay or the MTB and hiking trails around Rheenendal.
All in all a comfortable and great value for money Knysna getaway. So if you’re Garden Route bound and look for a place to hunker down, grab this one, it’s a winner.
