Sitting just off the main Baviaanskloof gravel road, 65km from Willowmore, Bo-Kloof Guest Farm and its lovely Kolgans Cottage make for a tranquil and convenient stopover, with the added option of some spectacular hikes cutting into the surrounding mountains and gorges.
For hardened campers, Bo-Kloof offers a pleasant campsite alongside a large swimming hole. ??
However, for the urban comfort seeker Kolgans is the drawcard - a cute clapboard cabin miles from anybody and hidden in a glade of acacia trees on the edge of the farm dam.
This Hansel-and-Gretel cottage sleeps four in two double rooms, one of these a mezzanine level reached via sculpted timber railings above the living room.
Downstairs you have an open-plan, equipped kitchen and cosy living room spilling onto the deck, where it's all about kicking back after a dusty day in the 'Kloof and gazing over the water and yonder rugged mountains.
Stepping off the deck brings you to a braai area under the trees. Life could be far worse.
Upping the convenience factor, friendly host Anina offers the Bo-Kloof Farm Kitchen, a small tea garden near the main homestead, where breakfast, light meals and other farm-baked delights are on the menu. There’s also a small shop selling basic supplies and braaiwood.??
Activities at Bo-Kloof include the spectacular Waterkloof Hiking Trail, which involves a little under two hours to complete, as well as a 4x4 trail and a number of shorter hikes and mountain bike routes.??
Comfy and romantic quarters, plenty of options to keep you busy, and an appealing setting make Bo-Kloof a perfect Baviaans stayover.
