Klein Dassenberg is a serene spot that offers a palatable taste of farm life close to home.
Conveniently appointed near the outskirts of Franschhoek, it’s an appealing picture of oak trees and vineyards, bisected by a stream.
Scattered here and there within short strolls of each other are four cottages, each a little different in style and character.
Stable is a made to order Cape-style cottage appointed on a small farm dam. The good quality fittings and general feel make it a favourite among the honeymooner set. Among its elements are a loft bedroom with a steep staircase and a pretty patio overlooking the vineyards.
With a character distinctly its own, Slave is an old wonky labourer’s cottage set under oaks next to a plunge pool and featuring traditional white-washed walls, twisted beam ceilings, very low doorways (suited to a family of hobbits), an open fireplace and a Victorian bath.
Further up the hill and under shady oak, Tree House and The Barn are a Siamese twin combination, each with its own private entrance.
Both have views of the valley, and like all the accommodation at Klein Dassenberg, are very comfortable. The Barn is the more spacious of the two and suitable for a family of four, with two single beds in the living area.
"This was our second visit to this facility and once again we found the ambience magic. Last time around we experienced Stable Cottage, which was great. This time we found Slave Cottage to be cute, tiny and a great experience for a couple, and with the dodgy weather the fireplace a must. The next visit will just have to be Barn or Treehouse.

"My husband and I spent a few days here for our honeymoon. We stayed in The Treehouse and the view from the stoep was breathtaking. Overall, the service we received was professional and friendly and the facilities were spotless. It's situated close to the main road in Franschhoek, which suited us perfectly. I would definitely recommend going there and when we have the time, we're going back!"
