Vaalwater & Waterberg Snapshot
The first region in the northern part of South Africa to be named a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, The Waterberg area is a place that attracts regular repeat visits. And deservedly so. Vaalwater itself lies just north of the mountainous massif - home to dramatic rugged rock formations, some of the Big Five, a number of incredible bird species, a few quirky sightseeing spots, and the most temperate weather around. Helped by it's easy striking distance from Pretoria, Vaalwater is fast becoming a popular tourist destination, particularly among hunters and weary travellers looking for a stopover en route to the Waterberg Massif and Botswana. Good weather, soothing vistas and nature in abundance - what's not to love?

- The Jan Botha Museum is a private museum open to the public. The wide variety of interesting pieces and displays include antique tractors, military equipment, sewing machines and stamps. It's worth a visit.
